Monday july 11th 2022

It’s here, the day we have been looking forward to. What a stressful period though. The few days for vacation, finishing work, also leaving right at the end of the schoolyear. Erik and I are not at our best those last days, we know that so we will stay out of each others hair as much as possible lol. With this time the added stress of all the stuff going on at the airport in Holland. Will everything go smooth? Will our flight not be cancelled? Will all the suitcases arrive? Will we be on time for our connection if we will be delayed etc.

But that week is behind us. We are there…. I am writing this while sitting in our hotel room in Raynham. The kids and Erik are in the pool after breakfast so I can reorganize all the suitcases. And now I am ready. We had a little accident with 3 packs of hagelslag we brought (sprinkles for on bread). I had put everything in little plastic baggies just incase it would leak, but didn’t do the hagelslag which opened in one suitcase. Thank goodness it wasn’t in a hot car so it didn’t melt but boy, what a mess lol. And that after a very long day of travelling. The kids didn’t even notice, the layed down a fell asleep.

The trip here went really smooth which we are very grateful for. We had some delay on both flights, but didn’t have to miss anything. I must say that having it booked through my dear cousin Lisette from The Travel District made it so much less stressful. I knew she was on the other side of my phone and she would jump right in and try to arrange a new flight if necessary! That took away so much stress that I usually do have! So big shout out to you Lisette!!!! Thanks so much for taking care of everything and especially for the positive vibes whenever I was stressed out again!

On our way back from Amerika to Holland last year, I spend quite some time crying my eyeballs out on the flight. All the stress and built-up emotions came out. Everyone knows what a tough and difficult year it has been, so don’t have to go into that. But I must say that, besides being very excited of going home after a year, I was also so stressed and anxious leading up to it. How will it feel being back?, how will it feel seeing everyone again? And most importantly…How will it be when we have to leave again after 4 weeks here? As we have just arrived, I am still a little anxious about it all. But when the plane landed I broke and started crying so bad and it stayed like that until we arrived at the gate after about 45 minutes (we had to wait for a while). I can’t really describe what it was exactly, it was probably a mixture of lots of things, mostly relieve of finally being there and everything about the travelpart going well.

Everything at Boston Logan went smooth as well, we eased through customs, on our way to the suitcases and didn’t have to wait more than 5 minutes before we had everything. Then in the bus to the car rental, that only took about 20 minutes to get the paperwork done and then we picked out a nice ride, Nissan Rogue for the coming 4 weeks. Then we realized that the suitcases were a bit big for this ride lol…But the good think of marrying an engineer is that I never have to think about this as he always finds a way😊. In the car the kids fell asleep and after dropping of the suitcases in the hotel room, we went to our favorite Panera down the street for some bagels and mac & cheese which was delicious. Unfortunately, I forgot my old phone with all my apps on it but my old phone number is still in the system lol….

Arriving at the hotel room after that we were all so very tired after a 22 hr travel that we went right to sleep. We had a very good night, not waking up before 6 am, which is awesome as we probably had most of the jetlag slept of this way. We will see!

We had breakfast early and after the kids went to the pool with Erik while I spent time re-organizing all the suitcases. All is done now which is nice so we don’t have to do that when arriving at our friend Katie’s house where we will be staying this week.

We feels so very lucky with our friends and are so grateful as they took off so much stress by arranging for us to stay at their houses. We are so excited to go see everyone!!! We only planned 3 things and nothing else yet as we first want to settle in and then we will take it day by day. I brought my computer to write about this trip and all the fun stuff we will do. Wonderful to share, but especially wonderful to have this as a memory with all the pictures after this trip for the kids and ourselves.

This morning my friend Alyssa stopped by at the parking lot of the hotel for a quick hug on her way to work and in an hour we will see Katie and the girls which we are so so very excited for. We are so excited to see everyone and see how much all those kiddos have grown over the past 12 months. Last night at Panera we ran into 2 of Nynkes classmates and its insane to see how much the girls all matured over the past year. We can’t wait to run into so many more people over the coming month! Hope to see you soon!!!
